Prescription Requirements

CMC Pharmacy Cabo is a fully licensed Mexican pharmacy. Some medications require a valid prescription to be dispensed, in accordance with Mexican law (NOM-073-SSA1) and COFEPRIS regulations. This page explains which products require a prescription, which formats we accept, and how to submit yours.

Bilingual service · English & Español.
Our pharmacist will review your prescription and confirm before any controlled medication is dispensed.

What Requires a Prescription

Mexican law classifies medications into groups based on therapeutic risk. CMC Pharmacy Cabo follows the official COFEPRIS classification:

Group I — Controlled Substances (Highest Restriction)

Narcotics and strong psychotropics. Require a special “Receta Especial con Código de Barras” issued by a licensed Mexican physician. We do not dispense these to US-only prescriptions.

Group II — Psychotropics (Restricted)

Includes certain anxiolytics, ADHD stimulants, and benzodiazepines. Require an original prescription with physician license number (“Cédula Profesional”).

Group III — Antibiotics & Specialty Rx

Antibiotics, dermatology Rx, hormones, and other prescription-only medications. Require a written prescription valid for the current treatment course.

Group IV — Ambulatory Rx (Retainable Prescription)

Common chronic-condition medications dispensed with a prescription that the pharmacy retains for record. Examples include certain blood-pressure and metabolic medications.

Group V & VI — OTC (No Prescription Needed)

Over-the-counter products such as pain relievers, antacids, vitamins, first-aid, and personal care. May be purchased freely.

Product pages on our site display a red “PRESCRIPTION REQUIRED” badge whenever a valid prescription is required for that item.

Accepted Prescription Formats

  • Original physical prescription issued by a licensed healthcare provider in Mexico or the United States.
  • Digital prescription with a verifiable electronic signature from a recognized clinic or hospital system.
  • US visitors: we may accept your existing prescription bottle label together with a valid government-issued ID — on a case-by-case basis, subject to pharmacist verification. Controlled substances are excluded from this option.
  • Refills require either the original prescription or a written authorization from the prescribing provider.
